SAN FRANCISCO — Authorities in San Francisco say a woman died after she was struck by a city maintenance vehicle in a park.

Fire Department Spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge says the woman was struck by the vehicle at Holly Park in the city’s Bernal Heights neighborhood today.

Talmadge said the woman was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.

The name of the woman, who witnesses say apparently was sunbathing at the park, has not been released.

Police spokeswoman Tracy Turner says a girl who also was with the woman when she was struck was unharmed.

Turner says police have detained and are questioning the driver of the city vehicle who apparently fled the scene after the incident.
