Reports: Michigan state trooper shot during traffic stop near Ludington, condition unknown


SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities say a Michigan state trooper was shot during a traffic stop in western Michigan.

WOOD-TV said the shooting happened tonight in Mason County’s Sherman Township, northeast of Ludington. It quoted the Mason County sheriff’s department as saying a suspect was in custody.

The sheriff’s department told The Associated Press that no information would be available until Tuesday morning. A state police dispatcher also said that that no information was immediately available.

WJR-AM says the trooper was airlifted to a hospital, where his condition was unknown.
