MANISTEE, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder plans to attend the funeral of a Michigan State Police trooper who was killed during a traffic stop earlier this week.

Today's service for Paul Butterfield in the western Michigan city of Manistee also will feature an honor guard and military salute. The 1 p.m. funeral and a 10 a.m. visitation at the Manistee Middle/High School are open to the public.

Nineteen-year-old Eric Knysz was arraigned Friday on homicide, using a gun during a felony, car theft and habitual offender charges. He was appointed a public defender.

Authorities accuse him of shooting Butterfield in the head on Monday in Sherman Township, about 80 miles north of Grand Rapids. Twenty-year-old Sarah Knysz has been charged with helping her husband try to escape.
