Ind. man charged with aiming gun at courthouse
10/1/2013JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A man who pointed a shotgun at a southern Indiana courthouse today while government employees worked inside faces charges that include criminal recklessness, police said.
Henry Campbell, 63, of Sellersburg, surrendered peacefully during the incident outside the Clark County Government Building. Campbell also was charged with pointing a firearm and intimidation, Jeffersonville police Detective Todd Hollis said.
“We had bystanders observe him leveling the weapon” at the building, Hollis said.
City and county police quickly surrounded Campbell after he pointed the gun from inside his pickup truck parked in a lot across from the building, The (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal and the News and Tribune reported.
No shots were fired and no one was hurt.
“We were able to get enough officers around him that he just gave up,” Clark County Sheriff Danny Rodden said.
Campbell was being held in the Clark County Jail. It wasn’t clear whether he had an attorney.
Investigators plan to interview relatives of Campbell to determine whether he had any issues with government, Hollis said.
County Attorney Jake Elder said the building was briefly placed on lockdown and workers were told to stay away from the windows.
