10/5/2013WASHINGTON — A memorial is being held at the National Press Club in Washington for Helen Thomas, who died in July at the age of 92.
A memorial is being held today for Thomas, who grilled 10 presidents as a White House reporter for United Press International and later as a columnist for Hearst.
She became the first female White House bureau chief for a wire service when UPI named her to the position in 1974. She was also the first female officer at the National Press Club, where women had once been barred as members.
