DETROIT  — U.S. border authorities say they seized 144 pounds of suspected cocaine sealed in the cab of a truck preparing to cross the Ambassador Bridge to Canada.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection says its agents were inspecting a tractor-trailer Sunday as it prepared to cross the bridge from Detroit to Windsor, Ontario.

The agency says agents asked the driver and a passenger to exit the truck, which was carrying produce. It says inspectors found 55 vacuum-sealed packages of suspected cocaine in the bunk area of the tractor.

The agency says it seized the vehicle and drugs and turned the driver and passenger over to Homeland Security investigators.

The suspects’ names weren’t released. The agency says the driver is a Canadian citizen and the passenger is an Indian citizen with Canadian residency.
