Student whose note leads to California high school lockdown steps in front of train, dies
12/19/2013MOORPARK, Calif. — Authorities say a student who spurred a lockdown with a threatening note at a Ventura County high school killed himself by stepping in front of a train.
Sheriff’s Capt. Don Aguilar says someone called 911 after discovering the note shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday, and Moorpark High School was locked down for more than two hours while deputies searched the campus and students were sent home.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Buschow tells the Ventura County Star that during the lockdown, a person later identified as the threatening student stepped in front of an Amtrak train about a mile from the school and was killed.
The student’s name wasn’t released.
About 2,000 students attend the school 60 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
Two nearby elementary schools were also briefly locked down.
