DETROIT — A convicted carjacker has escaped from a state correctional facility on Detroit’s eastside.

Police say 25-year-old Adrian Clay escaped about 7:30 a.m. Saturday from the Detroit Reentry Center on Ryan Road.

WWJ-AM reports Clay was performing janitorial work at the facility. He was wearing a blue prison jumpsuit at the time of his escape.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig called Clay “a dangerous suspect” and someone police “want to apprehend.”

A police helicopter has been called in to help search. State police and state Corrections officers also are part of the search.

Corrections records show Clay was sentenced in 2005 for carjacking and weapons offenses. He was paroled earlier this month and assigned to the Reentry Center.
