Snow, ice snarl traffic on roadways around shivering Michigan, with lows falling to minus 9
1/23/2014HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Weather-related crashes have snarled traffic around shivering Michigan, and the Lake Michigan shoreline is getting another day of lake-effect snow.
Snow and ice led to crashes Thursday morning on Interstate 69 near Flint and I-94 near Kalamazoo and in Berrien County.
The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids says that as of Thursday morning snowfall totals of 14 inches were reported in Ottawa County’s Holland Township and in Newaygo County.
Bitter cold continues, with temperatures early Thursday ranging from minus 9 at Grayling in the northern Lower Peninsula to 10 above at South Haven in southwest. The 1 p.m. reading reached 17 at Ypsilanti.
More snow is forecast Friday, with 6 inches possible in western Michigan.
