WHITE PIGEON, Mich. — State officials are investigating the death of a 30-year-old Indiana man at a mill in southwest Michigan.

The St. Joseph sheriff’s office tells WOOD-TV that the man apparently lost his footing Friday while loading rail cars and fell into a hopper car at The Andersons mill in Mottville Township, just north of the state line with Indiana.

Co-workers pulled the man out and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The Elkhart, Ind., resident later was pronounced dead.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the case.
