TSA to screen at rail station for Super Bowl
1/31/2014SECAUCUS, N.J. — Super Bowl fans who take the train to the big game Sunday might confuse the rail station with an airport.
The Transportation Security Administration said it will be screening all bags for explosives at the Secaucus Junction Station before passengers are permitted on the one rail line serving MetLife Stadium. The agency said officers also will be using radiological detection devices.
The Secaucus station is a major commuter transfer station fed by 10 rail lines. Travelers will need to have a Super Bowl ticket as well as a rail ticket to take NJ Transit’s 6.8-mile Meadowlands rail line to the stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Officials estimate that 12,000 to 15,000 passengers will ride trains between the station and the stadium.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time because of the screening.
Ten-car double-decker trains capable of carrying up to 1,350 passengers will operate to the stadium, NJ Transit said.
