2/2/2014TRENTON, N.J. — A member of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s administration who was subpoenaed in an alleged political payback investigation has resigned.
Christina Genovese Renna left the governor’s office Friday, the same day former Christie loyalist David Wildstein claimed that there is evidence Mr. Christie knew about an apparently politically motivated traffic jam earlier than he has said.
Ms. Renna reported to Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Kelly, who apparently set the lane closings in motion with an email to Mr. Wildstein. Ms. Renna confirmed her resignation on Sunday through her lawyer.
Ms. Renna indicated that she has been considering leaving since the November election, which Mr. Christie won decisively.
Ms. Renna is among 17 people close to the governor who have received subpoenas from a legislative panel investigating whether Christie aides engineered the lane closures to send a message to a Democratic mayor.
The unannounced lane closures caused massive gridlock in Fort Lee in September, delaying emergency vehicles and school buses and tying up some commuters for hours over four mornings.
