Michigan regents OK new post to boost minority enrollment, $396 million in construction

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Under pressure to increase the number of minority students, the University of Michigan Board of Regents has approved a new administrative position that would focus on enrollment management.

The regents met in Ann Arbor on Thursday and voted to create an associate vice president’s job.

Provost Martha Pollack announced the position in a campus-wide email last month in which she promised to hire someone to help recruit qualified minority students to the university.

The board also approved a $261 million facility for the biological sciences. It will bring together the departments of molecular, cellular and developmental biology, ecology and evolutionary biology.

And the regents approved a $135 million construction project to expand the Stephen Ross School of Business.
