SAGINAW, Mich. — The Saginaw County prosecutor says he expects to file new charges against a couple arrested in the burning and beating of their 6-year-old son after the boy died from his injuries.

Thirty-nine-year-old Aki Dillard and 30-year-old Mio Campbell were arraigned Monday. Dillard is charged with attempted murder and child abuse, while Campbell is charged with child abuse.

Authorities say police were called to a Saginaw home and found Elijah Dillard with extensive burns and a head injury. Prosecutor John McColgan Jr. says Elijah died over the weekend.

District Judge Kyle Higgs Tarrant has set Dillard’s bond at $15 million and Campbell’s at $5 million. The judge scheduled their probable cause hearing for March 17.

The prosecutor’s office didn’t immediately have information on whether the defendants have lawyers.
