DES MOINES, Iowa  — The holders of two lucky tickets sold states apart will split a $400 million Mega Millions jackpot, the sixth-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The winning numbers were drawn Tuesday night, and lottery officials said today that the tickets were sold in Florida and Maryland.

Florida lottery officials say their winning ticket was sold at a Sunoco convenience store in Merritt Island on the Space Coast. That winner has 180 days to come forward, and state lotto officials will release his or her name and city of residence.

Maryland lottery officials say their winning ticket was sold at Lady Liquor in La Plata, south of Washington. The winner has 182 days to claim the prize and can do so anonymously.

Both retailers receive $100,000 commissions for selling the winning tickets.
