DETROIT — Police say a man originally reported as slain following a shooting in a Detroit high school parking lot is in critical condition at an area hospital.

Chief James Craig told reporters Saturday that the shooting of the 19-year-old was gang related.

The victim was found outside East English Village Preparatory Academy Friday night after a school program inside the east side building.

No other injuries were reported.

Detroit Public Schools spokesman Steve Wasko told The Detroit News the shooting victim is not a student and had no known connection to the school’s annual Grammy Night for high school seniors and families. About 800 people attended the event.
