House GOP wants to spend $3.3M on special committee probing Benghazi
7/7/2014WASHINGTON — House Republicans are calling for spending $3.3 million this year on a special select committee investigating the deadly Sept. 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya.
The seven-member GOP majority would get some $2.2 million for staff and other operations while the five-member Democratic minority would receive just over $1 million for similar expenses.
The costs were spelled out in a committee document provided by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California.
The attacks killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Democrats have portrayed the investigation as election-year partisanship. Republicans have said the probe is necessary to find out the facts.
