American Red Cross opens emergency shelter in suburban Detroit for those affected by flooding
8/13/2014GARDEN CITY, Mich. — The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter in suburban Detroit for those affected by flooding.
The shelter at Garden City Middle School offers a place for people to stay, get a hot meal, receive minor first aid and find other support.
Regional Disaster Program Officer Steve Bosau says in a statement that in the coming days the Southeastern Michigan Chapter will coordinate with emergency officials and communities “to help residents impacted by the flood get back on their feet.”
Red Cross volunteers have been sent to communities including Detroit, Warren, Ferndale, Royal Oak, Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. The storms on Monday dumped more than 6 inches of rain in places, stranding motorists and flooding homes.
