SOUTH EL MONTE, Calif. — Los Angeles County authorities say a pregnant woman who was shot several times has given birth.

Sheriff’s Deputy Crystal Hernandez says the baby is in fair condition, but there is no information about the condition of the mother.

The woman, in her late 20s, was seven months pregnant.

City News Service reports the woman was alone in her vehicle when she was shot late Tuesday in South El Monte.

Sheriff’s Lt. William Wicker says the victim may have been followed home before she was fired upon by the occupant of a dark-colored vehicle.

Wicker says there is no suspect description. Investigators have not identified a motive.

South El Monte is about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
