Rose Run for cancer research July 17

6/23/2010

PETERSBURG, Mich. - The Rose Run, a 5-kilometer run and walk to benefit cancer research and the local volunteer fire department, will be July 17.

The annual run, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. at 10 East Center St., is in memory of Rose Marie Hunt, a city resident who lost her battle with cancer in January, 2009.

It begins festivities for the city's Community Day Festival, an annual celebration that dates to 1976.

The cost of the run/walk is $25 for registrations online in advance at theroserun.com or by mail before July 1. The cost on the day of the run will be $30. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on July 17.

Like last year, organizers are inviting people from throughout the county and the world to sign up, pay the registration fee, and participate through a virtual run or walk.

All proceeds for the virtual runners and walkers will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

"We want people to run or create a team and be a part of the Rose Run," said Jessica Cribbs, one of Mrs. Hunt's three children and a 1996 graduate of Summerfield High School.

The run and walk last year raised more than $10,000 for charity, including nearly $9,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
