Exhibit honors women's contributions in aviation

10/5/2011TEMPERANCE -- The contributions that women have made to aviation is the focus of a display and two presentations at Monroe Community College's Whitman Center in Temperance this month.
The exhibit "100 Ohio Women in Air and Space," which includes photographs and biographies of Ohio women, will be shown through Oct. 20 during regular hours at the center, 7777 Lewis Ave., Temperance.
Next Wednesday, a presentation called "Women in Aviation" will be given from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 9 of the Whitman Center.
The presentation will include stories about local female pilots from Ohio and Michigan who flew crop dusters and jets, delivering mail, and helping people and pets.
Corinne Barringer, a certified forensics judge and researcher of aviation, will lead the talk.
On Oct.17, a panel discussion will examine opportunities within the aviation industry and reasons people should consider a career. That session will begin at 7 p.m. in Room 9 of the Whitman Center.
The panel will include Rachel Krumwiede, education coordinator for the Yankee Air Museum in Belleville, Mich.; Elgene Doinidis, administrator at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich., Amy Kienast Linderman, national director of business relations at the Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology in Canton; Alyssa Novak, flight instructor at the Eagle Flight Center in Ypsilanti, Mich., and Holly Czupich, contract administrator for USA Jet Airlines.
The display and presentations are free and open to the public.
The displays can be viewed from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, and from 8:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturdays.
The exhibits are on loan from the International Women's Air and Space Museum in Cleveland.
