Coaches say OSU No. 1
8/5/2006The second Ohio State-Texas showdown just got some added hype.
Despite having to replace nine starters on defense, the Buckeyes were named No. 1 yesterday in the USA Today preseason college football coaches poll.
The Longhorns, who defeated OSU in Columbus last year en route to a national title, are No. 2. The two teams meet again Sept. 9 in Austin, Texas.
The Buckeyes received 28 of 63 first-place votes. Texas garnered 11 first-place votes. Notre Dame and USC are tied for third. Michigan is ranked 15th.
The Associated Press poll, a media vote, will be released Aug. 19.
