OSU's Bergman in NCAA wrestling final

ST. LOUIS - Ohio State senior heavyweight J.D. Bergman of Oak Harbor won a pair of matches yesterday to reach the finals of the NCAA wrestling championships at the Scott-Trade Center.

In the quarterfinals, Bergman decisioned David Zabriskie of Iowa State 11-1, then edged Navy's Ed Prendergast 5-4 in the semifinals.

Bergman will meet Northwestern's Dustin Fox in today's final.

Iowa has a big lead in the team standings with 102 points, ensuring the school's 21st title. Ohio State (71) was a distant second followed by Iowa State (68), Penn State (63), Central Michigan (61.5), Michigan (61), Nebraska and Oklahoma State (58), Cornell (57.5) and Minnesota (56.5).

COLUMBUS - University of Toledo senior Megan McKinley finished 10th in the 3-meter diving at the NCAA swimming and diving championships.

She earned All-American status for her performance.

McKinley finished in 11th place in the preliminaries with 306.05 points to dive in the consolation round. She had a point total of 318.35 for a 10th place finish. Ohio State's Chelsea Davis came in first with 365.85 points.

McKinley also participated in the 1-meter competition and finished in 22nd place with total of 256.15.

DETROIT - Tim Miller's second goal of the game, with four minutes left, lifted Michigan to a 6-4 win over Northern Michigan in a back-and-forth Central Collegiate Hockey Association semifinal last night.

Michigan (30-5-4) will play Miami (Ohio) in tonight's final. Miami beat Notre Dame 2-1 in overtime in the other semifinal.

Travis Turnbull had two goals for Michigan.

Alec Martinez's goal 6:06 into overtime lifted Miami (32-6-1).

Mitch Ganzak also scored for Miami to send the game into overtime. Jeff Zatkoff made 20 saves.
