An out-of-town writer asked Urban Meyer last week if he was concerned the tape-doctoring accusations leveled by Michigan State would damage his reputation among other Big Ten coaches.

"It doesn't concern me at all," Meyer replied.

Call me old-fashioned, but this sort of attitude is not okay. It is great. As a reporter, it is refreshing to hear a coach who tells it straight and makes no apologies for his unremitting drive. And for fans, take heart that the griping from other schools roughly translates to, "O mother, where art thou?"

With the possible exception of Michigan, where Brady Hoke is stockpiling elite recruits like bottled water and ramen noodles before a blizzard, the rest of the Big Ten is frightened by the prospect of what Meyer is building at OSU. The recruiting hullabaloo over gentlemen's agreements? Filmgate? A rub-your-nose-in-it final touchdown in the Buckeyes' 63-38 win over Nebraska? The complaints — from rival coaches and/or fans — stem from insecurity.

I did not agree with Meyer allowing Carlos Hyde to run for a 16-yard score with 48 seconds left Saturday. A knee would have sufficed. But hey, it makes life interesting. Next up is lowly Indiana, where, if the Buckeyes fulfill a goal Meyer laid out before the season, they will score 100 points.
