Big second half gives Ohio State 35-23 win over Penn State
10/27/2012STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — No. 9 Ohio State remained perfect with a 35-23 victory over Penn State tonight at Beaver Stadium.
The Buckeyes (9-0, 5-0 Big Ten) broke a halftime tie with three straight touchdowns to open the third quarter and cruised from there. Linebacker Ryan Shazier returned an interception 17 yards for a touchdown and quarterback Braxton Miler ran for a pair of 1-yard scores.
The night looked to swing late in the first half on the Buckeyes’ perplexing Achilles’ heel —punt coverage. On fourth-and-13 on the OSU 14, linebacker Mike Hull blocked the punt and Michael Yancich recovered in the end zone to put the Nittany Lions ahead 7-0. But Ohio State answered with a 75-yard touchdown drive capped by Carlos Hyde’s 1-yard run with 34 seconds remaining.
