Muschamp takes a jabat Ohio State

HOOVER, Ala. — Florida coach Will Muschamp said Ohio State did report the Gators for possible NCAA violations.

Muschamp told reporters at SEC Media Day no violations were found by the SEC or NCAA, and then he took a jab at Ohio State.

“And so we appreciated our friends from Ohio making sure we’re compliant with NCAA rules. They certainly know a little bit about that subject,” he said, according to USA Today.

Ohio State was banned from the postseason last year for NCAA violations.

The Buckeyes reportedly turned in a Florida assistant for having contact with a recruit during an impermissible time and for a Gators player giving another recruit a ride to campus.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, Muschamp’s predecessor at Florida, has denied being directly involved in reporting Florida.

When asked recently if he was the person who turned in his former school, Meyer said the report was “absolutely untrue.”

However, the Columbus Dispatch reported that an OSU spokesperson confirmed it wasn’t Meyer who turned in the Gators, but someone else from the athletic department.

The topic will undoubtedly come up next week when the Big Ten holds its annual media days in Chicago.

The verbal jabs and insinuations could also make for an interesting matchup should Ohio State and Florida play, as they did two years ago in the Gator Bowl. The Big Ten and SEC have alliances in the TaxSlayer.com Gator, Capital One, and Outback bowls.

WATCH LISTS: The list of Ohio State players who are on preseason watch lists continues to grow as the season nears.

Receivers Devin Smith, a junior, and Corey Brown, a senior, were named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list this week. The award goes to the top collegiate receiver in the nation.

As a junior, Brown caught 60 passes for 669 yards and three touchdowns.

Smith’s sophomore season saw him catch 30 passes for 618 yards and six touchdowns.

A week ago, linebacker Ryan Shazier was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Chuck Bednarik Award watch lists. This year, he was named to the watch lists for the Butkus and Rotary Lombardi Awards.

Senior guard Andrew Norwell was named to the watch lists for the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award.
