■ Notes: Beyond the health of Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, who will be a game-time decision with a sprained left knee, the big storyline will be the Buckeyes’ ability to rattle Cal signal-caller Jared Goff. The freshman has proven a snug fit in a “Bear Raid” offense, averaging 97 plays per game under new coach Sonny Dykes. Goff leads the nation with 930 passing yards. ... Whether Miller plays or not, OSU believes it will be in good hands at quarterback. Backup Kenny Guiton has either finished a touchdown drive or led OSU into the end zone in 15 of his 28 series the past two years. ... OSU is the highest-ranked nonconference team to visit Cal since fourth-ranked Nebraska throttled the Bears 24-3 at Memorial Stadium in 1998. ... Cal is looking for its first win against a top-five opponent since outlasting third-ranked Southern California 34-31 in triple overtime in 2003. ... The Buckeyes are 57-26-2 against current members of the Pac-12. They have a losing record against two schools: USC (9-13-1) and Stanford (2-3). ... Starting sophomore defensive end Adolphus Washington is expected to return after he was sidelined with a strained groin early in the Buckeyes’ 42-7 win over San Diego State.
