Ohio State tackle, St. John's graduate Jack Mewhort 2nd-team Walter Camp All-American

COLUMBUS — Ohio State left tackle and St. John’s Jesuit graduate Jack Mewhort was honored tonight as a second-team Walter Camp All-American.

The 6-foot-6, 308-pound senior was one of two Buckeyes — along with second-team linebacker Ryan Shazier — and six Big Ten players recognized among the nation’s elite. Michigan State’s Darqueze Dennard was a first-team All-American at defensive back while Spartans defensive end Shilique Calhoun, Michigan left tackle Taylor Lewan, and Northwestern kicker Jeff Budzien earned second-team recognition.

Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack represented the Mid-American Conference on the second team.

Mewhort has been called the heart of the Buckeyes’ offense by coach Urban Meyer and was the cornerstone of their veteran line, which cleared the way for the nation’s fourth-ranked rushing offense (317.5 yards per game). The three-year starter is a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection by the media and is bound for next month’s Senior Bowl, an annual showcase for the best senior players and top NFL draft prospects. The game will be played Jan. 25 in Mobile, Ala.
