Massillon freshman QB already commits to OSU

COLUMBUS — Ohio State has found its quarterback of the future ... to succeed its quarterbacks of the future.

Massillon Washington freshman Danny Clark committed to the Buckeyes late Friday — more than three years before he can make his word official.

Viewed as a possible future five-star prospect, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Clark passed for 1,644 yards and 17 touchdowns as the first freshman to start at quarterback in Massillon’s storied history. He was already drawing interest from Florida State, Georgia, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Michigan State among others, according to recruiting services.

The first freshman quarterback anyone could recall committing to OSU, the Clark is the Buckeyes’ only pledge beyond the class of 2015. He will be able to sign in February 2017.

Though the Buckeyes’ outlook next season will pivot largely on whether two-time reigning Big Ten MVP Braxton Miller returns for his senior year, they appear set at quarterback for the near future. OSU has redshirt freshman Cardale Jones — a 6-foot-5, 250-pound dual threat from Cleveland — four-star freshman J.T. Barrett, and a commitment in this year’s class from Georgia’s Stephen Collier.
