FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Ohio State football team arrived in South Beach today without one of its defensive stars.

Sophomore defensive end Noah Spence did not accompany the team on its Orange Bowl trip because of what coach Urban Meyer called "personal issues." Asked if the Buckeyes' sacks leader may join the team by Friday night's game against Clemson, Meyer replied, "I hope."

Meyer declined to specify Spence's issues as he prepared for OSU's first on-site practice at a local university. Spence has eight sacks in 13 games.
