Report: Ohio State's Spence suspended for ecstasy

COLUMBUS — Ohio State football star Noah Spence's recent suspension was the result of a positive drug test for a small amount of ecstasy, his father told a Harrisburg, Pa., television station today.
Spence, a sophomore defensive end who led the Buckeyes with eight sacks, was suspended before last week's Orange Bowl for an unspecified Big Ten rules violation. His father, Greg, told WHTM-TV that Noah took the drug accidentally after it was put in his drink at a party.
His father said the Big Ten originally suspended Spence for one year before an appeal dropped the suspension to three games. The family's second appeal to the Big Ten — one that Ohio State aided, according to a previous school statement — was denied.
WHTM-TV reported Spence's family plans to file a lawsuit against the Big Ten.
The Spence family or the Big Ten did not immediately return messages for comment. An Ohio State spokesman said the school will have "no further comment."
