COLUMBUS — The Ohio State football team landed the biggest prospect from one of the smallest states today.

Four-star South Dakota offensive lineman Grant Schmidt announced his plans to become the Buckeyes’ first-ever scholarship player from the Mount Rushmore State.

A day after landing a pledge from four-star Maryland safety Tyler Green, Ohio State’s once-glacial recruiting pace continued to gain traction with the commitment from the 6-foot-6, 285-pound tackle from Sioux Falls. Schmidt is the Buckeyes’ fifth commitment in the Class of 2015.

Schmidt’s hometown newspaper, the Argus Leader, reported that he received the offer after attending the Buckeyes’ football camp Sunday. Ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 22 tackle and No. 219 overall prospect in his class, he also held offers from Washington State, Minnesota, Iowa State, Utah, North Carolina, and Cincinnati, among other schools.
