Fiber577 brings creativity to Perrysburg art scene

Judy Schramm, left, and Jana Duckett, both of Rossford, make their way past the pieces of fiber art hanging during this year's fiber577 show at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg. The free show, which ran Saturday and Sunday afternoons, featured 75 pieces, live music, "fiber bomb" works of art throughout the foundation's gardens, space to create fiber art in the Pop-Up Art Studio and live music. Schramm and Duckett are neighbors who decided to come out to the exhibition.

At most art exhibits guests are left to walk around, browse and enjoy artists' creations.

At the 577 Foundation's Fiber577 art event this weekend, the guests became a part of the action. There were 15 artist demonstrations on how to create different fiber art, and a pop-up studio where Perrysburg artist Jennifer Solon helped guests create their own art.

"That is a great part of the show to get people excited about fiber art and the techniques," Mrs. Solon said.

The sixth annual fiber577 event had exhibits of 75 pieces from artists all over the region to be judged. New to the event was the "fiber bombs." Local artists selected different areas around the 577 Foundation to place their fiber art for a scavenger hunt. The art work located around the grounds was called fiber bombs. Mrs. Solon said children like coming to the event and the scavenger hunt gives them something exciting to find.

Mrs. Solon said 99 percent of the material used for the pop-up studio's art for guests is from reused items, such as paper bags and thrift shop sweaters.

"It is fun engaging people to different types of experiences and showcase unique [artistic] techniques," Mrs. Solon said. "It is a fun and interactive for the entire family."
