Rain in the forecast needs to get in and get out in time for two major festivals this weekend in the Perrysburg area.
Ten thousand people are expected to converge on downtown Saturday for Harrison Rally Day, a celebration of the city’s historic past with food, music, crafts, and art.
The festival, which is free, kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m., with a parade scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Hungry visitors will get a “Taste of Perrysburg” from 15 local food vendors and other downtown eateries. Music lovers can groove to the beat of local bands Blowing Grains at 11 a.m.; Swingmania at 1 p.m., and Rosie O’Grady’s Good Time Jazz Band at 3 p.m. Shoppers can laden themselves with a variety of fine arts and crafts.
Harrison Rally Day includes a juried art show held in conjunction with Rally for the Arts, which is the Perrysburg Area Arts Council’s largest fundraiser.
Rock the Docks, an after-party of sorts to the festival, will feature the band Velvet Jones and include a beer tent. The event will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight along the Maumee River, just off Louisiana Avenue in the riverfront behind the Commodore Perry statue.
One could mark off several “firsts” at the 12th annual International Festival, slated for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, 25877 Scheider Road in Perrysburg Township. It too is free and open to the public.
Festival-goers could sample an exotic delicacy, learn something new about the Muslim faith, or try out a four-legged desert mode of transportation. The event features cultural exhibits, center tours, ethnic food, cooking demonstrations, a bazaar, craft activities, games, camel and pony rides, and a petting zoo.
