Cameras flashed, crowds cheered, and reporters with microphones asked "Who are you wearing?" as party-goers entered on the red carpet for the 10th annual Red Cross Oscar Night on Feb. 24 at the Owens Community College Performing Arts Center.

The excitement gave guests a chance to see what it was like in the limelight as emcees Jerry Anderson and Chrys Peterson of WTOL-TV, Channel 11 greeted them with questions as other local stars arrived from the parking lot via limousine courtesy of Black and White Transportation.

Then it was delectable foods, music, and a big screen to watch the 85th Academy Awards ceremony. Nearly 30 restaurants donated their time and specialties, offering everything from savory lamb chops, lobster bisque, shrimp, and pork to sweet treats such as cheesecake pops, crepes, and gooey chocolate confections. Among them were Poco Piatti, Irish Eyes Heavenly Pub, Kotobuki, Nick & Jimmy's, Revolution Grille, Real Seafood, Mancy Brother's Catering, Rosie's Italian, Registry Bistro, LaScola, Georgio's, Beirut, and the Final Cut.

Meanwhile the Taste of the Nation committee members served as bartenders in the night club setting as the Homewreckers and HepCat Revival played tunes for listening and dancing.

Many folks vied for the two silent auction items: a ruby and diamond necklace from Jaffe Jewelers and a private dining experience at the Final Cut. Movie-themed raffle baskets ranging in value from $700-$1,500 each were exciting as well.

Among the 700 attendees were honorary chairmen Mike Bower, Owens Community College president, and his wife, Carol. Also scene were Mayor Mike Bell and Karen Jarosz, Fred and Julie Treuhaft, Doug and Jan Martin, Cyndi and Jack Sculfort, Ellie Barnette, Denise and Terry Benton, Gary and Roberta Schaber, Ben and Peggy Brown, Bob and Mary Arquette, Phil and Mary Lou Rudolph, and Dick Joseph and Cherie Assally.

The estimated net from the event is $145,000, which is the most ever, according to event chairmen Stephanie Kuhlman and Keith Kwiatkowski, who were assisted by committee members Dee Talmage, Joe Buick, Jason Copsey, Sally DePerro, Sondra Gibbons, Marsha Manahan, and Matt Hoverman. Sponsors included Hollywood Casino, Columbia Gas, The Blade, and KeyBank.
