Free family fun that includes First Friday summer events, outdoor movie night, and the Home for the Holiday's parade is on tap for Perrysburg once again in 2014.
The Downtown Perrysburg Inc., a community-based non-profit, puts on all these events in downtown Perrysburg. The organization had its annual meeting Thursday to discuss how the previous year went and talk about next year's plans.
Most of the events are held annually, and start off with Winterfest, Feb. 21-23. There will once again be four First Friday downtown street festival events, but they will be in May, June, August, and September since July's program will be during the Fourth of July weekend.
This year, there will only be one Outdoor Family Movie Night scheduled in the summer. Last year, The Lorax and Dolphin Tale were both shown during the summer.
The First Fridays, movie nights, the Holiday parade, and OctoBOOfest are all free events for Perrysburg families. The organization earns its money through sponsors, membership fees, and then fund-raisers with two Rock the Docks concerts and community events. Alcohol sales during Winterfest also contribute to funding.
"Overall it was an awesome year," said Rick Thielen, Downtown Perrysburg Inc. executive director about last year. "We had record attendance at our events. First Fridays were all well attended. The holiday parade had a record amount of parade entries and attendance."
Mr. Thielen just found out the National Ice Carving Association will hold its national championship competition in Perrysburg during the Winterfest ceremonies.
