Perrysburg Twp. trustees accept fact finder's report on negotiations with firefighters

Contract would include 1.5% wage increase this year and next; 2% in 2016

The Perrysburg Township trustees reluctantly voted 3-0 today to accept a fact finder‘s report in negotiations between the township and International Association of Firefighters.

The township’s firefighters now must vote on the deal.

The three-year contract backed by the fact finder gives the firefighters a 1.5 percent wage increase for this year and next year, and a 2 percent increase in 2016. The contract also includes more meal money for days firefighters spend away for training, an increase from $25 to $46 a day.

"It is not everything we hoped for, with a third party we knew that would happen," Trustee Gary Britten said. "It is a part of life, no one got exactly what they wanted."

Trustee Bob Mack also said it wasn't what they were hoping for, but supported the agreement to bring closure to the talks.

The contract includes a pay bump for firefighters in charge each shift. The in-charge officer will receive an .80 percent increase for those hours.

The union represents 16 firefighters.

Also Wednesday, trustees hosted a second public hearing for the township‘s 2014 zoning initiative. Once again no one was there to speak in support or against it. The trustees will vote June 4 to put the plan on the November ballot.

The initiative will bring zoning to the portion of Perrysburg Township -- roughly half the township -- that is currently unzoned. Trustees have mapped the now-unzoned land and designated zones to match parcels’ current land use. The unzoned land is in the areas south of Five Point Road, east of Lime City Road, and south of State Rt. 795.
