Perrysburg Police Detective Rich Cartwright receives MADD award.
Perrysburg Police Detective Rich Cartwright was honored last week by Mother's Against Drunk Drivers for his enforcement of laws relating to drunk drivers.
While Detective Cartwright is no longer working traffic and pulling over drunk drivers since he was promoted in November, he said, he likely had the most operating a vehicle while impaired tickets last year to earn this honor.
"It was a nice OBJECThonor and to be recognized for enforcement of the DUI law," he said. "It is a group of mothers effected by drunk drivers. They are trying to educate people and work as lobbyist to get certain drunk driving laws through and help families with counseling."
Detective Cartwright said he was presented with an award a few years back by MADD when he worked for the City of Rossford where he had success arresting drunk drivers on the road.
"You can kind of tell after doing it for awhile. You look for things for how people normally drive and see if there is something off," he said.
He wishes there were no drunk driving arrests because the number of arrests shows how often people drive over the legal limit.
"You are not only hurting yourself but you are hurting other people that share the roads with you," Mr. Cartwright said. "It is very selfish."
