With thefts from automobiles a problem over summer, Perrysburg police have advised shoppers to be careful during the holiday season.
At least six cars in Perrysburg were broken in the past week as culprits stole laptops, purses, cash, and credit cards.
The Perrysburg police will use uniformed police, both walking and on bikes, in the shopping areas, along with plain-clothes police keeping an eye on commercial districts and parking lots.
The police have tips for shoppers in parking areas: Be aware of people around you trying to distract you while someone else is close by. Park in well lit areas. Put your purse in the car first before items in the cart. Do not unlock your car before you get next to it so as you do not telegraph which car is yours. Keep items, especially expensive ones, out of sight in the car. Try not to text or take calls while shopping or walking in the parking lot.
If you notice a suspicious person while shopping, call 419-872-8001 or, for an emergency, 911.
