Notre Dame Academy students place at state speech competition

Several Sylvania and Perrysburg students at Notre Dame Academy placed high in the recent Ohio High School Speech League state competition.

The school finished as district champion for an area that includes Toledo and Columbus.

The school had nine students place in the Ohio High School Speech League State Championship, after qualifying 28 students for the event which ran from Feb. 28 to March 2 in Youngstown. The school has the largest speech program in the area, with more than 70 students involved.

Earning state honors were: junior Nikita Ajmera of Holland, third in Impromptu Speaking; senior Marisa Napoli of Toledo, third in Original Oratory; juniors Mendon Thomas of Lambertville, and Olivia Schwann of Ottawa Hills, semi-finalists in Duo Interpretation; sophomore Sarah Gardner of Toledo, semi-finalist in Oratorical Interpretation; sophomore Julia Balzer of Perrysburg and senior Alexandra Davis of Toledo, quarter finalists in Duo Interpretations; senior Madeline Kaplan of Sylvania, quarter finalist Prose-Poetry; and junior Jenny Kim of Toledo, octa-tinalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Among the 19 other student who competed in the state competition were senior McKenna Kulish of Perrysburg in Oratorical Interpretation; juniors Meghan Oberle of Sylvania in Prose-Poetry and Mikafui Dzotsi of Sylvania in Dramatic Interpretation; sophomores Stephanie Lancz of Sylvania in Public Forum Debate, Katie Dills of Perrysburg in Duo Interpretation, Stephanie Sim of Sylvania in Oratorical Interpretation, Lilly Kaplan of Sylvania in Oratorical Interpretation, and Schuyler Stupica of Sylvania in Student Congress; and freshmen Eileen DiPofi of Sylvania in Duo Interpretation, and Molly Walton of Perrysburg in Student Congress.
