St. Rose School in Perrysburg will add a preschool wing for next school year.

The $250,000 project begins in April, and is to be completed by early August.

It will add three classrooms to the school and allow it to offer full-day programs for 4 and 5-year-olds, as well as some programs for 3-year-olds, said Elizabeth Munger, St. Rose's preschool director.

"We saw a need in the market to offer additional programming when some of our families were enrolling their children in two different preschools," said Principal Barb Jenks.

The church has had preschool programs, but they were separate in the Walz Center next to the church instead of in the school. Once the work is done, the school will have four classes for 3-year olds, four classes for 4-year olds, and two classes for 5-year olds.

The new wing allows preschoolers to use the resources in the elementary school building, such as music, art, library and the gym.

St. Rose added an extended-half day kindergarten program last year, but with the added classes from the preschool project, the school will be able to extend the half-day program next school year to operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., allowing students to end their day with lunch and recess.
