Penta lands $1.5 million robotics grant

Penta Career Center is the recipient of a $1.5 million grant from Ohio‘‍s Straight A Fund that will help cover the costs of a new robotics lab.

Penta is one of eight schools in the Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative statewide advanced manufacturing consortium receiving the money. It will allow the high school that pulls from 16 area member schools to bring in several new robots and equipment to provide advanced robotics and manufacturing.

“It is a big deal,” said Ron Matter, superintendent of Penta, which is based in Perrysburg Township.

Fanuc Robots, CNC Machine, Mechatronics, and yaskawa are some of the training and robots that the new lab will bring to students. The grant also will give Penta a mobile trailer with robotics to take to its 16 area member schools, which includes Perrysburg High School.

“That will give our school’‍s STEM labs and manufacturing students exposure to robotics and manufacturing industrial equipment,” Mr. Matter said.

There may be new programs for advanced robotics coming to Penta because of this grant, such as business training options and adult education based in the lab, he said.

Later this month, Mr. Matter said, he will meet with people from the state and robotics collaborative to find out what is needed for the lab and when construction can start.
