Wood County Committee on Aging hosts chefs' throwdown event

Five chefs will battle for the title the Wood County Throwdown Champion, which the public judge.

The Oct. 20 event will be hosted by the Wood County Committee on Aging at Penta Career Center at 9301 Buck Rd., Perrysburg Township.

Advanced tickets are $5 and are available at 419-353-5661. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. the day of the event.

Guests will sample and critique various courses from the local chefs. The guests votes will determine the People’s Choice awards for appetizer, main course, and dessert. There also will be celebrity judging to announce the 2012 Wood County Throwdown Champion. Celebrity judges include Ron Matter, superintendent of Penta; Dan Neman, The Blade’s food editor; and Owen Community College President Mike Bower.

Competing chefs are Dave Napierala of Waterford at Levis Commons; Anne Hodulik of Bowling Green Manor; James Price of Sterling House of Bowling Green; Mike Widmer of Blakely Care Canter; and Paul Dauch of Wood County Committee on Aging.

Napierala has cooked for restaurants, country clubs, assisted living, and hotels for 16 years. Hodulik has cooked in long-term care facilities for over 20 years. Price has experience in the healthcare food service and is a member of the Association of Nutrition Foodservice Professionals. Widmer has worked in the dietary service industry for many years and has owned and operated his own restaurant. Dauch has cooked for various restaurants and is now the food service manager at Wood County Committee on Aging and has worked in the food industry for over 20 years.

Entertainment at the event will provided by Perrysburg Commons and Visiting Physicians Association. Featured entertainment includes Gene Parker Quartet.

The Wood County Committee on Aging plans and develops programs and services that will allow adults over 60 to remain as independent as possible for as long as possible. Services include; medical assistance, money related assistance, exercise classes and other fun senior related activities.
