Board OKs incentives for Perrysburg teachers

The Perrysburg Board of Education approved Monday a three-year contract that provides 1.25 percent annual raises while offering teachers an alternative salary scheme based on their work evaluations.

“For the first time ever, teachers will have the opportunity to influence their individual salary,” schools Superintendent Thomas Hosler said in a statement. “Teachers who opt-in to this system will have ownership of how their performance impacts their paychecks.”

The board approved the Perrysburg Educational Association’s contract, as well as an administrative compensation plan and contracts for both the superintendent and treasurer.

The three-year teachers’ contract includes a 1.25 percent annual raise regardless of salary amount. Teachers also can choose to opt-in to an alternative compensation system that would align performance with salary increases.

Administrators will now have their future pay hikes based on performance, which unlike the teachers’ contract, is not optional.

Superintendent and treasurer contracts mirror the administrative contracts, and compensation also will be based on individual and district-level performance. The superintendent's contract is for $129,350 and includes a 2 percent increase, while the treasurer’s contract is $101,490 and also includes a 2 percent increase.
