This week Sylvania has a variety of things to do for the whole family, from an Easter egg hunt to marching band performances, and open skate.
The outdoors is a child’s classroom in Olander Park’s weekly Nature Needs Kids event. Children from 3 to 5 years old will explore the outdoors, and then come inside for a fun learning presentation. Facilitators include Toledo Puppet Lady Joyce Davis, Lourdes Life Lab’s Linda Penn, and Maureen Schell of ECO-Discovery. Olivia the lovable sassy pig is honored at the Sylvania Public Library’s Make-It Take-It Week, which ends on Saturday. Drop in anytime on Friday or Saturday to take a quiz about Ian Falconer’s illustrative book series’ character Olivia. Turn in your answers for candy and to be entered into a grand prize drawing. The children’s area will also have a craft on hand for children to create a pig-ear crown. Hop to it. It’s the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Olander Park. Children will collect the colorful Easter eggs in exchange for prizes and chocolate goodies that will be passed out on the Bunny Trail. At the end of the trail is a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny. The Northview marching band, directed by Gene Bohland, will present its Disney World march song My Country, Tis’ of Thee to family members and the community before heading South for the Disney World Magic Kingdom Parade on Thursday in Florida. This performance is one of the few times the entire concert band, usually divided into three concert bands, will march together. From classic rock to oldies, Gene Zenz band will perform a range of American hits, in addition to original acoustic numbers 7 to 11 p.m. at Village Inn, 4984 N. Holland-Sylvania Road. For more information, call 419-882-0338.
Tam-O-Shanter opens the ice ring to the public for open skate seven days a week, including Sunday. Children under 3 are free, adult non-resident $4, adult-resident $3, ice skate rentals $2, at Tam-O-Shanter, 7060 Sylvania Ave. For information, call 419-885-1167 ext. 2.
