Sylvania has variety of swimming areas

Splish splash, the clouds have cleared and with summer being officially here, you and your family can cool off at several of Sylvania’s public pools.

SLYVANIA NATATORIUM

Place: Indoor pool at Northview High School, 5403 Silica Dr.

Hours: Summer hours 2p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday;

Cost: $4 per swimmer.

LAKE OLANDER

Place: Natural aquifer at Olander Park, 6930 Sylvania Ave.

Hours: Daily, noon to 7 p.m. through Aug. 11. From Aug. 12-18 and Aug. 24, 25, and Labor Day weekend, noon to 6 p.m.

Cost: $2 for Sylvania School District residents, $4 for non-residents, and age 2 and are under free.

Extras: The lake has a sandy beach. Also, the lake rents paddle boats ($3 per half hour) and rowboats ($3 per hour). Must be 16 or older to rent one or 12 or older to ride in one without an adult guardian. Fishing is permitted for anglers ages 16 to 65, and valid state fishing license is required. PLUMMER POOL

Place: Burnham Park, 6940 Maplewood Ave.

Hours: Through Sept. 2, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Cost: For Sylvania School District residents, $3.50 for ages 12 and up and $2.50 for ages 11 and under; for non-school district residents, $4.50 for ages 12 and up and $3.50 for ages 11 and under. District residents can get family memberships for $125 or single memberships are $55. Non-district patrons can get a family membership for $200 and a single single membership is $75.

CENTENNIAL QUARRY

Place: Naturally occurring spring water facility, 5773 Centennial Rd.

Hours: Through Sept. 2, open daily, noon to 7 p.m. June 1 to Aug. 25, and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 26-30, and noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

Cost: $6 per swimmer, family membership $165, single membership $90.

Extras: Features diving platforms, water toys, swim rafts, sandy beaches, three sand volleyball courts, and a basketball court. For information, call 419-882-1500 or visit centennialterrace.org.
