Just prior to Black Friday, the Lourdes University Social Science Club is hosting a public forum on the world of consumerism and its effects on the human condition.
Its “Coffee & Documentaries” event at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20 will be in the lower level of St. Francis Hall at Lourdes campus. It is free and open to the public.
Shown will be the documentary Consumed: Inside the Belly of the Beast. Discussion will follow.
The film delves into the world of modern consumerism and and asks the question, “How much do we know about it and what it is doing to us?” Using theories of evolutionary psychology, the film points to how people's appetite for goods and services has limited redemptive value.
The Social Science Club is an educational student group from Lourdes’ criminal justice, psychology, social work, and sociology programs.
