9 restaurants vie for best pie at annual 'Pizza Palooza' Centennial Terrace

More than 12,000 people are expected to attend Sylvania‘s annual “Pizza Palooza.“

The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District hold the event July 25 and 26 at Centennial Terrace.

The nine pizza vendors vying for the best pizza restaurant in northwest Ohio and Sofo’s winner trophies are Amie’s–Mancino’s Pizza, Charlie’s Pizza, J-Cups Pizza, Jet’s Pizza, Jo-Jo’s Pizzeria, Mama Mary’s, PizzaPapalis of Toledo, PizzAroma, and Vito’s Pizza.

They will be judged by professionals on July 25, with winners announced at 8 p.m. The People’s Choice winners will be announced at 9 p.m. July 26.

Admission tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children 5-12, and children 4 and under are free. The slices will be sold for $1.50 to $2 a slice. Advance tickets are available at Metamora State Bank and the Sylvania chamber office.

Media personalities and business leaders will vie for bragging rights for the Corporate/Media trophies; judging finals are at 5 p.m. July 25. Funds raised from the event benefit the chamber and the joint recreation district, used for education and beautification projects.

The event will include music: performing on July 25 will be Mt. Fuji and the Eruptions from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Distant Cousins from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.; and Last Born Sons from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Performing on July 26 will be Boffo from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Barile and May from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.; and the Wheeler Brothers from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. 

Children’s activities are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. both days.
