A new 17-unit assisted living facility for elderly nuns is to be dedicated Thursday by the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania.

Our Lady of Grace Hall is designed for sisters who have some limitations, but are mobile enough to qualify for assisted living.

It was built adjacent to Rosary Care Center, the 76-bed nursing facility for aging Sisters. Both buildings are on the north side of the 89-acre campus on Convent Boulevard in Sylvania that serves as the motherhouse for the Sisters and the home of Lourdes University.

The single-story building is made up of home-like suites for residents that include a kitchenette, living area and private bath. Our Lady of Grace Hall is connected to Rosary Care Center so residents will not have go outside. It has its own dining area, a common space for gathering and an outside patio.

Managed by Franciscan Living Communities, a subsidiary of Sylvania Franciscan Health, the new facility was named after the statue of Our Lady of Grace that used to stand atop St. Mary’s Hospital in North Platte, Neb., which was operated by the Sisters of St. Francis until 1973.

The dedication and blessing will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the common area of Our Lady of Grace.

Attendees can enter the Sylvania Franciscan Village by using the driveway on Convent Boulevard closest to the railroad tracks that is marked Rosary Care Center. Park in the Rosary Care parking lot and use the entrance to the right of the two buildings.

In addition to the blessing, comments will be made by Sister Mary Jon Wagner, congregational minister of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania; Jim Pope, president and chief executive of Sylvania Franciscan Health, the health and human services sponsored ministry of the Sisters; and Cheryl King, administrator of Rosary Care Center and Our Lady of Grace Hall.
