Students and community members gathered inside the San Damiano Campus Ministry House today to unveil the new space.

Located at 6675 Convent Blvd., the building is part of Lourdes University's mid-campus expansion project and seven-year strategic plan. It is on property across the street from the main campus.

Vice president for mission and ministry Sister Ann Carmen Barone led a blessing of the facility. Interim university president Janet Robinson said the campus community has been waiting on the facility for awhile and that it will serve an important purpose.

“It brings together so many people on campus,” she said. “I think of it as kind of a refuge.” Ms. Robinson said the house exuded feelings of warmth.

The house, which was an existing structure, was sponsored by the Sylvania Sisters of St. Francis. It will be used for campus ministry programming, planning, and various events. It features chapel space and ample space for students to work on projects together. A reading room houses motivational books.

Sister Barbara Vano, director of campus ministry and service learning, said the building will be perfect for allowing more people to attend campus ministry events. One popular event, called Soup and Scripture, outgrew its previous space at the university. With about 25 students participating in the core campus ministry program, Sister Vano said the team is excited about the new space.

Almost all of the furniture in the house has been donated by Lourdes faculty and staff and community members.
